Self-Destructing Gadgets Made Not So Mission Impossible

The self-destructing option on gadgets that we’ve seen in Hollywood’s Mission: Impossible movies can now be a reality, as a new self-destructing mechanism allows the destruction of an electronic device within 10 seconds. Proposed by researchers at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in Saudi Arabia, the mechanism is compatible with the semiconductor technology found in most electronics. The need to ensure sensitive information is protected is not just a cause for fictional characters, but many real life government agencies and corporations could value an extra layer of security to their computing devices.
